Executive
Officer in Training (XOiT)
The XOiT program provides trainees with the needed experience to become
an Executive Officer of a starship or station. During training, candidates
will post frequently, assist the SM/CO in performing any required duties,
and handle any crew conflicts that may arise.
Throughout the 3 month training course, the XOiT will receive assistance
and feedback from the SM/CO and at the end of the training, the crew.
This will give the XO the needed experience and learning environment
to develop the needed leadership skills and administrative abilities
required for a command staff member.
Below is a detailed list of tasks the XOiT will perform during the arc.
This list offers examples of how tasks should be performed. If any questions
arise pertaining to this information, email the Serpens’ Ship Manager
for assistance.
Duties
The XOiT candidate may be asked to perform duties outside of the realm
of the Executive Officer, such as keeping attendance records or running
a subplot of a mission if the SM/CO is unavailable for a certain period
of time. This may include leading a portion of the crew during an Away
Team mission, etc.
If any player conflicts arise, it will be up to the XOiT to attempt to
handle these issues via email, CCing the SM/CO on every email. If the
situation cannot be resolved, the SM/CO will step in and assist the XOiT.
The USS Serpens NCC-78621
The USS Serpens is a Nova Class Variant vessel that is located in Holo-Building
One of Starfleet Academy. Because of this, the USS Serpens can go virtually
anywhere throughout the Quadrant.
The Senior Staff of the USS Serpens are simply officers who are trained
in various fields, holding various positions and ranks just as they would
on a regular starship. They do not get promoted due to the program rules,
but they are evaluated at the end of each Command Training session.
The XOiT’s character will meet the crew either aboard the USS Serpens
in Holo-Building One or in Starfleet Academy before reporting to the
Serpens. This will be determined by the mission arc that is planned.
Command Character
The XOiT candidate will play the highest ranked PBeM Division character.
This ensures that the XOiT will not be focused on character development,
but on assisting in running the missions. This character should continue
to be played on the trainee’s normal vessel. The Serpens’ Ship
Manager will make sure that all posting requirements are being met by
the trainee.
The XOiT trainee’s email address will be added to one of the NPC
slots on the Serpens’ roster by the Serpens’ Ship Manager.
Crew Evaluations
At the end of the XOiT’s tenure, the XOiT will assist in evaluating
the crew of the ship with the SM/CO. These evaluations will be posted
on the ODN, so they will need to be professional: including positive
and constructive criticism. Should the SM/CO and XOiT decide a commendation,
medal, or reprimand is in order, the Serpens’ Ship Manager perform
the required paperwork.
Monthly Posting Reports
At times, the XOiT may be asked to write the Monthly Posting reports that
are due at the first of each month. These reports should be submitted to
the crew and contain announcements for the ship and the posting statistics
of each individual player. These reports should also be posted to the
Serpens' Subspace Board.

Example.
Subspace Board Moderation
An Executive Officer in the PBeM Division may be required to monitor their
ship's Subspace Board. The XOiT will be required to post all Monthly
Posting Reports and Intelligence Reports on the
Serpens' Subspace Board.
Moderator status will be granted to the XOiT upon assignment to the
Serpens.
For general assistance on how to use the Subspace Board, please check
out this Subspace Tutorial.
Executive Officer Interview
In order to become an Executive Officer, a player must undergo an
interview by the Ship Manager. The Serpens' Ship Manager will send the
XOiT a mock interview to be filled out. This interview will be treated as
if it is the real thing, and comments will be made on each response by the
Ship Manager and additional staff member.
XOiT Evaluation
At the end of the XOiT’s tenure, the XOiT will be evaluated by
the crew of the USS Serpens. These comments will be placed on the ODN
and made available to the trainee and all game staff members.

Communication
Communication is extremely important during the XOiT’s tenure.
The XOiT should not hesitate to ask any questions at all!
And Remember – HAVE FUN!
